Muzaffar Shah Confident of Victory: SC’s Article 370 Verdict Imminent
Jammu and Kashmir Awami National Conference’s Vice President, Muzaffar Shah, who is among the petitioners challenging the abrogation of Article 370 in the Supreme Court, expressed confidence on Monday, asserting that based on the arguments presented, “we have already won the case.
“A five-judge Constitution bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud will determine the constitutional validity of the Centre’s decision on August 5, 2019, to abrogate Article 370, which granted special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. Shah stated, “We expect the verdict in accordance with the Constitution of the country. As the CJI declared himself the first and last disciple of the Constitution, based on our arguments in court, we believe we have already secured victory in this case. Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh stand united on this issue. Article 370 must be restored to its original form. We remain hopeful for the best and prepared for the worst.

“Shah criticized the revocation of Article 370, stating that it was done without the involvement of the Jammu and Kashmir Constituent Assembly. He emphasized the global significance of the case, saying, “The whole world is watching this case today.”National Conference MP Hasnain Masoodi expressed optimism about the court’s decision favoring the people of Jammu & Kashmir. “We are advocates of peace.
The government did not address our concerns; they merely highlighted the increase in tourism,” Masoodi told.Security has been heightened in Srinagar in anticipation of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. The apex court reserved judgment on September 5 after a 16-day hearing.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the petitioners, argued that Article 370 had lost its “temporary provision” status and had become permanent after the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Central government defended its decision, asserting that after the changes, street violence orchestrated by terrorists and secessionist networks had ceased, leading to an era of “unprecedented peace, progress, and prosperity” in the region since 2019.
Numerous petitions were filed in the Supreme Court by private individuals, lawyers, activists, politicians, and political parties challenging the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, which divided Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories:
Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. On August 5, 2019, the central government announced the revocation of the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.
