AIMIM leader and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi Declares Allahabad High Court Hijab Verdict an ” Assault on Islam”

New Delhi, Aug 26, 2026 [VoM News]: The Allahabad High Court’s verdict disallowing a Muslim student’s plea to use a scarf with her uniform was vehemently condemned as an “assault on Islam” by AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi.

The Parliamentarian asserted that judicial authorities ought not to deliberate on what constitutes a prerequisite of Islam. ” It is Islam, it is we ourselves who will determine what is requisite. Who are the justices to decide? ” Owaisi asked during a media address.

On August 21st, the High Court denied the application submitted by a pupil at an academic institution in Prayagraj, who had passed 10th grade. She intended to wear a headscarf along with her school outfit when she enrolled for 11th grade at the same institution.

A two-judge bench of Judges JJ Munir and Indrajit Shukla decreed that pupils don’t have the authority to amend the stipulated school attire based on individual proclivity, along with discounting the claim that a scarf is a non-negotiable component of Islam. The High Court stated that schools may impose their attire policies if they prove to be equitable, non-discriminatory and aimed at enforcing order and egalitarianism.

Owaisi contends that this directive violatesArticles 19 and 25 of the Indian constitution, upholding freedom of speech and freedom of worship. He also pointed to ongoing supreme court proceedings regarding similar points with regard to essential religious practices and inquired the rationale behind the high court’s premature judgment on the matter.

” She is wearing a hijab around her head, not over her mind,” added Owaisi, noting that “uniformity isn’t egalitarianism”. He further claimed that this ruling might deter Muslim female learners from continuing their studies.
