At Least 8 Dead, 108 Indians Missing After Flash Floods Hit Nepal Near Tibet Border
Kathmandu, August 26: At least eight people have died and several others, including 108 Indians, are missing after a sudden flash flood swept through parts of Nepal near the Tibet border on Wednesday, causing extensive damage to villages, roads and infrastructure.
The flood surged through the Bhote Koshi River at around 9 a.m. local time, reportedly from the direction of Tibet, inundating areas of Rasuwa district and causing damage in Timure and nearby Syafrubesi.
The Nepal Army said 14 helicopters and disaster-response teams have been deployed for search, rescue and relief operations. Personnel from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have also been mobilised in Rasuwa and surrounding areas.
Authorities said vehicles, goods and other property were washed away in the flooding. Roads, hydropower facilities, electricity transmission lines and substations were also reportedly damaged.
High-alert warnings have been issued for settlements along riverbanks in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan districts. Residents in low-lying areas have been advised to move to safer, elevated locations, while authorities have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel along riverside routes.
The Nepal government has intensified rescue operations in the affected areas, with district disaster-management authorities coordinating emergency response efforts.
