Karnataka Minister Nagendra Once Again Offers to Step Down as Valmiki Corporation Scam Rocks the Cabinet
Bengaluru, India – August 26, 2026 (By VoM News) – In a fresh turn of events that’s sparking renewed political fire, Karnataka’s Tribal Welfare Minister B. Nagendra has once again made an offer to resign from Chief Minister D.K.
Shivakumar’s cabinet. This comes hot on the heels of aggressive probing from the BJP regarding financial irregularities within the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation.
The BJP has been pressing for Nagendra’s removal, citing alleged malpractices amounting to approximately Rs. 89 crore. Sources indicate to NDTV that Chief Minister Shivakumar has advised Nagendra to hold off on any decisions while he seeks guidance from the party’s central leadership.
This controversy first grabbed headlines in May 2024 when Chandrasekharan P., an accounts officer at the corporation, took his own life, leaving behind a suicide note.
The note spoke of unauthorized fund transfers from the corporation’s bank accounts. An investigation that followed unearthed accusations of massive sums being moved into a multitude of bank accounts, escalating the political heat and amplifying calls for Nagendra’s resignation.
Notably, Nagendra had already stepped down from the Siddaramaiah government in June 2024 while the controversy swirled. He was reinstated into the cabinet on August 3rd, following Shivakumar’s appointment as Chief Minister.
This latest resignation offer from Nagendra follows just a day after the Karnataka BJP announced a 10-day padayatra. Scheduled to commence on September 1st in Raichur and end in Ballari on September 10th, this roughly 200km march is being organized to bring attention to accusations of corruption and other related grievances concerning the current Congress government.
State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra confirmed details of the march, with Union Minister Pralhad Joshi set to kick off the procession.
The BJP intends to use this platform not only to highlight Nagendra’s recent return to the cabinet but also to bring other issues, including those affecting farmers, employment, reservations and recruitments, to the forefront.
