Mohan Yadav is New Rajasthan’s CM
Preparations are underway for the swearing-in ceremony of Mohan Yadav, set to become the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Lal Parade Ground in the state capital. Dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are expected to attend, as confirmed by sources close to Yadav.
This announcement came after days of speculation, wherein the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) designated Mohan Yadav as the new Chief Minister, denying Shivraj Singh Chouhan a potential fifth term.
Mohan Yadav, aged 58 and a former minister in the Chouhan government, was unanimously elected as the BJP legislative party leader.
The state will witness Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Devda serve as Deputy Chief Ministers, while Narendra Singh Tomar is set to assume the role of the new assembly speaker.
Although not initially considered a front-runner, Mohan Yadav’s proximity to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and his affiliation with the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, representing over 48% of the state’s population, played a pivotal role in his selection.
Following his designation, Yadav promptly met Governor Mangubhai Patel, asserting his claim to form the next government.
Having secured victory in the recent assembly elections with a landslide, the BJP won 163 out of the 230 assembly seats, substantially relegating the Congress to a distant second with 66 seats. Mohan Yadav, who first became an MLA from Ujjain South in 2013, has since retained the seat in subsequent elections, positioning himself to lead Madhya Pradesh’s government in the coming days.
