The Ministry of Health (MOH) has unequivocally dispelled rumors connecting the unfortunate demise of a 14-year-old Indian-origin student from a prestigious Singapore Sports School to COVID-19 vaccination. The MOH, as reported by TODAY newspaper, has categorically labeled these speculations as “untrue and irresponsible.” This statement came as a response to growing concerns about the student’s sudden passing earlier this week. Pranav Madhaik, a student-athlete in Secondary 2, tragically lost his life after experiencing distress during a 400m fitness time trial on October 5.

Cardiac Arrest and Congenital Malformation Identified as Causes of Student’s Death

In a startling revelation on Saturday, the school disclosed that the primary cause of Pranav’s death was cardiac arrest, with an underlying condition of congenital malformation of coronary vessels. The MOH stated that, based on their vaccination records, the young student had received his last dose of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine more than 18 months ago. Moreover, the ministry emphasized that the risk of severe illness due to a COVID-19 infection is significantly higher in unvaccinated individuals, highlighting the importance of vaccination.

Negligence Leads to Coach’s Dismissal

A disconcerting sequence of events unfolded as Pranav reported feeling unwell to his badminton coach after completing the fitness trial. The coach instructed him to rest while tending to other responsibilities, subsequently leaving the premises without realizing that Pranav was still at the same location. The teenager interacted with other groups of students before a track and field coach finally noticed his condition. An ambulance was promptly summoned, and Pranav’s parents were alerted. Tragically, the badminton coach has been served a notice of dismissal as a result of a glaring oversight. The school determined that he failed to adhere to safety protocols by not ensuring the well-being of his student-athletes.
