J&k: Amid Heavy Rains, Schools Closed & Exams Postponed Across Jammu Division

Jammu, Aug 31: Authorities on Sunday announced the closure of all government and private schools across Jammu Division for September 1 due to the ongoing spell of heavy rainfall and landslides in several hilly districts.

The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) said the decision was taken in the interest of safety of students and staff, as continuous rains have triggered landslides and disrupted road connectivity in many areas. “In continuation to earlier orders and keeping in view the incessant rains and landslides in hilly areas, it is hereby ordered that all government and private schools across Jammu Division shall continue to remain closed on 01-09-2025 (Monday),” reads the order issued by Director School Education Jammu, Dr. Naseem Javaid Chowdhary. Officials added that the weather situation is under constant watch, and further decisions regarding reopening will depend on future conditions.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has postponed the Annual (Private)/Bi-Annual 2025 examinations of Class 10 (SSE) and Class 11 (HSE-1st) that were scheduled to be held on September 1. The board cited the ongoing rains and floods across J&K and Ladakh as the reason for deferring the exams, saying fresh dates will be notified separately.
