Jaishankar’s Diplomatic Mission to Strengthen Ties with Vietnam and Singapore
India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, is set to embark on a crucial two-nation visit to Vietnam and Singapore, aiming to fortify bilateral relations and collaboration across diverse domains. His journey begins with Vietnam from October 15-18, in response to the invitation extended by his Vietnamese counterpart, Bui Thanh Son. The primary agenda includes co-chairing a meeting of the India-Vietnam Joint Commission focusing on economic, trade, scientific, and technological cooperation.
During his Vietnam visit, Jaishankar will explore the vibrant cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, engaging in discussions with high-ranking Vietnamese leaders. His itinerary also features interactions with the Indian community and the unveiling of Mahatma Gandhi’s bust in Ho Chi Minh City. The India-Vietnam partnership, described as a robust comprehensive strategic alliance, is an essential element of India’s Act East Policy. This visit presents an opportunity to assess the progress made in various sectors and brainstorm ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation.
Subsequently, Jaishankar will embark on an official visit to Singapore, scheduled for October 19-20. The agenda for this leg of his journey includes meetings with his Singaporean counterpart and top leadership in the country. Additionally, he will chair a regional conference of Indian heads of missions. India’s relationship with Singapore was elevated to a strategic partnership in 2015, and this year has witnessed numerous ministerial interactions on the sidelines of G20 meetings held during India’s presidency. Singapore was a guest country at these G20 meetings, further underlining the growing importance of this partnership. Notably, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong visited New Delhi to participate in the G20 Summit in September, reinforcing the deepening ties between the two nations.
