    Minister of State for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, actively participated in diplomatic discussions during the third South Summit in Kampala, Uganda. In a series of social media posts, Muraleedharan shared insights into his meetings with key representatives from Somalia, Oman, and Botswana, fostering diplomatic relationships on multiple fronts.

    Bilateral Talks with Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister

    Muraleedharan engaged in a “good meeting” with the Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Salah Ahmed Jana. The discussions explored various matters aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, emphasizing Jana’s affinity for Hindi and India. This marks a positive step toward enhancing diplomatic relationships between the two nations.

    Oman Diplomacy: Meeting with Undersecretary for Political Affairs

    In another diplomatic engagement, Muraleedharan met with Khalifa Alharthy, the Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Foreign Ministry of Oman. Describing the meeting as a positive interaction, the MoS MEA discussed matters of mutual interest and cooperation with Alharthy, contributing to the diplomatic dialogue between India and Oman.

    Botswana Ties: Strengthening Partnerships in Various Sectors

    Muraleedharan further met with Lemogang Kwape, the Foreign Minister of Botswana, during the South Summit in Kampala. The discussions focused on the positive impact of Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarships. Kwape expressed ideas for elevating bilateral partnerships in agriculture, food processing, health, and education.

    Inaugural Session and Thematic Alignment

    Apart from these bilateral meetings, the Indian MoS attended the inaugural session of the Third South Summit, where the theme, “Leaving No One Behind,” resonated with India’s ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – the World is One Family. Expressing his delight at being in Kampala for the summit, Muraleedharan looks forward to interacting with the Indian community.

    South Summit Objectives and Unity

    The Third South Summit aims at boosting South-South cooperation, covering trade, investment, sustainable development, climate change, poverty eradication, and the digital economy. With 134 Member States in Kampala, the summit reinforces the message of solidarity, unity, and complementarity of the South, contributing to shared goals and objectives. Muraleedharan’s diplomatic engagements play a crucial role in advancing India’s diplomatic footprint on the global stage.
