India Bets on Africa’s Rise: S Jaishankar Emphasizes Economic Core in Global Rebalancing
Addressing the Nigeria-India Business Council (NIBC), External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed India’s strategic focus on Africa’s ascent in the global landscape. He emphasized that the rebalancing and multipolarity of the world will only be fulfilled when Africa assumes its rightful place in the global economic order.
Betting on Africa’s Growth: A Shared Past and Enormous Solidarity
S Jaishankar highlighted India’s commitment to Africa’s rise, citing the continent’s demographic, resource-driven, ambitious, and policy-aligned growth. Recognizing a shared past, he emphasized the historical solidarity between India and Africa. The minister asserted that the reordering of the world and the completion of global rebalancing require Africa to claim its due place.
Strategic Partnership: Opportunities in Digital Infrastructure, Green Growth, and More
Identifying key areas for collaboration, Jaishankar pointed to digital public infrastructure, green and clean growth, water, agricultural sustainability, and the blue economy. He sees these sectors as ripe for enhancing the partnership between India and Africa. The minister’s visit to Nigeria, concluding his two-nation tour, underscores the significance of Nigeria as India’s premier economic partner in Africa.
Jaishankar urged both governments to seek practical solutions in areas such as banking, insurance, credit guarantees, flight connections, and trade settlements to strengthen the business relationship further. Despite significant trade and investment commitments, he emphasized the need for both nations to explore the untapped potential for growth and cooperation.
