Solicitor General Praises PM Modi and Amit Shah for Article 370 Decision
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta lauded the landmark decision of the Supreme Court on August 5, 2019, upholding the Centre’s argument on the abrogation of Article 370.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their resolute leadership in achieving this historical milestone.
Mehta emphasized their “iron will” and “brilliant strategy” as instrumental in rectifying a significant constitutional blunder.
Describing the verdict as a crucial correction in Indian history, Mehta highlighted the Court’s support for abrogating the constitutional schemes providing special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
Furthermore, the bench directed the restoration of statehood and assembly elections by September 30 of the following year.
Expressing his involvement in the pre-August 5, 2019 process, Mehta praised the meticulous coordination and flawless parliamentary stewardship displayed by PM Modi and Amit Shah.
He also commended the five-judge bench for their intellectual prowess and hailed the judicial adjudication as equally historic and rare.
According to Mehta, Monday’s judgment will be remembered for its profound scholarship, commitment to the rule of law, and its dedication to safeguarding the fundamental rights of every individual in Jammu and Kashmir, regardless of religion, sex, caste, or creed.
He affirmed that the apex court’s stance secured the legitimate rights of the region’s residents, long deprived of their entitlements since independence, while ensuring democratic elections.
