GDC Kilhotran Celebrates World Arbor Day Advocating for Environmental Protection
22nd March 2024- In a spirited display of environmental advocacy, students, and faculty members of Government Degree College Kilhotran gathered today to mark World Arbor Day. Organized by Department of Botany in collaboration with NSS unit, the event aimed to raised awareness about the importance of forest conservation and sustainable living practices.
The festivities commenced with a tree planting ceremony in the college campus by Dr Javid Iqbal Zargar Principal GDC Kilhotran and Dr Tasir Sharief Per, Head Department of Botany followed by brief interaction with the students and faculty about this year’s theme, “Forests and Innovation: New solutions for a better world”.
As saplings take root in the fertile soil, Principal addressed the crowd, highlighting the critical role of forests in mitigating climate change and preserving biodiversity.
Dr Tasir emphasized the need for collective action, stating, “Our forests are under threat from deforestation, urbanization, and climate change. It is imperative that we work together to protect and restore these invaluable ecosystems for future generations.
Prof. Zain Batt HoD, Political Science also spoke on the occasion and stressed upon the importance of celebrating these events.
Dr Mohd Aslam Rather, Programme Officer NSS unit and other faculty members along with NSS volunteers and students planted about 70 different plant saplings in and around the college campus.
