Cyclone ‘Tej’, which has been developing in the Arabian Sea, has intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). It is now tracking towards the Yemen-Oman coasts.
Path and Predicted Landfall
The cyclonic storm is expected to move northwestwards and make landfall between Al Ghaidah in Yemen and Salalah in Oman, to the east of Al Ghaidah. The landfall is projected to occur around noon on October 24 as a very severe cyclonic storm, with wind speeds of 115-125 kmph and gusts of up to 140 kmph.
Current Location and Conditions
As of 8:30 am on Sunday, the extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘Tej’ was centered about 160 km east-southeast of Socotra (Yemen), 540 km south-southeast of Salalah (Oman), and 550 km southeast of Al Ghaidah (Yemen).
Further Developments
In addition to ‘Tej’, the IMD also stated that the depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression by early Monday morning. The forecast suggests that it will then change course and move north-northeastwards over the subsequent three days, heading towards the coasts of Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal.
Stay Informed and Prepared
Given the intensification of ‘Tej’ into an extremely severe cyclonic storm and its expected landfall in the region, residents and authorities in the affected areas are advised to stay informed about the storm’s progress and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
