Doda: TLR News Facebook Page Geo-Blocked in India, Authorities Yet to Release Any Information
DODA, May 29, 2026 [VoM News]: The Facebook page of TLR News, a Doda-based digital media portal operating under TLR Media Pvt Ltd (as per details on Facebook account) with over 129,000 Facebook followers, appears to have been geo-blocked within India, with users attempting to access the page and its posts greeted by Meta’s now-familiar message: *”Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”*
Earlier in the day, screenshots circulating on social media show both the page and individual posts returning the blocked content notice, suggesting a blanket geo-restriction rather than removal of specific posts.
TLR News, which covers news from Jammu, Doda and surrounding areas of Jammu & Kashmir, had built a significant local following before the restriction came into effect.
After the India-Pakistan clashes of May 2025, several J&K-based outlets including Maktoob Media, Free Press Kashmir and The Kashmiriyat were blocked on X.
India also blocked access to thousands of accounts from Pakistan and Indian-administered Kashmir on X, while independent outlet The Wire faced temporary blocking after publishing certain reports.
As Meta has introduced the geo-blocking mechanism, routinely used across its platforms including Facebook and Instagram, allows governments to request content restrictions under local law without requiring outright removal globally.

Meta’s policy directs it to restrict content when governments believe material on its platforms goes “against local law,” a provision that has been invoked increasingly in the Indian context.
However, the reports of suppression, misuse of freedom expression, speech has been reported also.
So far, authorities have not revealed any information regarding the reasons behind the banned operation of TLR News.
