Congress Launches Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Manipur, Criticizing PM Modi’s Absence Amidst Violence
During the launch of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Manipur, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting the state amid the ongoing violence, accusing him of only seeking votes during elections. Kharge addressed the gathering, expressing his dismay, stating, “PM Narendra Modi comes here (Manipur) to seek votes but has not come when people in Manipur are in pain.”
The yatra, flagged off by Kharge and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi, will span over 6,700 kilometers across 67 days, covering 110 districts. Before embarking on the journey, party leaders and workers paid a silent tribute to those who lost their lives in the state’s recent violence.
Kharge took a dig at PM Modi, criticizing him for invoking the name of Lord Ram for electoral gains. “PM Modi keeps chanting ‘Ram, Ram,’ but he shouldn’t do it to seek votes,” he remarked, accusing the BJP of blending religion with politics and inciting people. “We fight for secularism, equality, and social justice. Rahul Gandhi has come to Manipur to share your pain and talk about your problems,” Kharge added.
Highlighting the historical significance of Manipur, Kharge recalled the praises showered on the state by Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi. He asserted that Rahul Gandhi is committed to protecting the preamble of the Constitution.
Describing the purpose of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Kharge stated, “Congress is taking out the Nyay Yatra to ensure employment for people, fight against price rise, and advocate for farmers’ rights. It is an effort to save the Constitution, democracy, and counter fascist forces.”
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot characterized Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Manipur as historic, emphasizing the message of peace, love, and brotherhood that he brings to a region plagued by prolonged violence. Lok Sabha MP Danish Ali, despite recent suspension by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), decided to join the yatra, expressing his commitment to unity and justice. Ali described the yatra as a call to action against divisive forces and an initiative to unite the people against fear, hate, exploitation, and divisiveness.
