    In a concerted effort to combat the illicit trade and supply of narcotics in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Secretary Sh. Atal Dulloo chaired the 9th UT level Apex committee meeting of NCORD. The meeting aimed at fostering better coordination among various stakeholders to tackle this pressing issue at the highest level of governance.

    Focus on Enforcement Measures and Rehabilitation

    During the meeting, Chief Secretary Dulloo emphasized the importance of implementing stringent enforcement measures and enhancing rehabilitation efforts. He took stock of the administration’s progress in establishing special NDPS courts and expanding drug de-addiction facilities across the districts. Additionally, he stressed the need for pharmacies to adhere to regulations, including installing CCTVs and implementing computerized billing systems to prevent the misuse of psychotropic substances.

    Enhanced Vigilance and Coordination

    Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Chief Secretary Dulloo underscored the need for heightened vigilance around educational institutions and other hotspots. He urged swift action against individuals involved in the narcotics trade and called for enhanced coordination among various departments for the comprehensive eradication of this menace.

    In his presentation, Special DG Crime, Deepak Kumar, highlighted the significant progress made in detentions and convictions through quality investigations of NDPS cases. He also outlined the department’s efforts to implement effective deterrents, such as sealing properties belonging to those involved in the illicit trade.

    Furthermore, it was revealed that law enforcement agencies had seized substantial quantities of narcotics, including heroin, brown sugar, charas, poppy straw, bhang, and various pharmaceuticals. These seizures reflect the authorities’ commitment to combating the narcotics trade and safeguarding the well-being of the community.
