CBI Officer Investigating Cases Dies in Jammu Road Accident
JAMMU: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer investigating several high-profile cases died in a road accident in Jammu.The incident occurred near the Super Specialty Hospital on the intervening nights of Friday and Saturday after DySP Prashant Sharma’s Royal Enfield bike skidded off the road due to rain, resulting in severe head injuries to the officer.
Eyewitnesses promptly transported him to the Government Medical College Jammu, and he was later referred to a hospital in Punjab, where he succumbed to his injuries en route.DySP Sharma son of Dharmpal Sharma of Paloura, Jammu, was posted at the CBI Headquarters at Panama Chowk.DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Dr Sunil Gupta, stated that the preliminary investigation suggests no foul play.
“CCTV footage and eyewitness statements indicate that the accident was a result of the officer’s motorcycle slipping from a speed-breaker during heavy rain,” he noted.It was also revealed by the eyewitnesses that Sharma was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and no helmet was found at the scene, he further said.
While the post-mortem of the deceased has been conducted, an FIR number 67/2024 has also been registered at the Nowabad Police Station under sections 279 and 337 of the IPC to further investigate the case.Despite the initial findings, Dr Sunil Gupta, DIG JSK Range, affirmed that a thorough investigation led by SP City North, Shivam Sidharth, will proceed to ensure transparency and fairness in the case.
