Captain Fatima-Wasim Makes History as First Woman Medical Officer at Siachen Glacier
Captain Fatima Wasim of the Siachen Warriors has made history as the inaugural female medical officer assigned to an operational post on the challenging Siachen Glacier, as announced by the Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Corps in a recent post on X.
The Fire and Fury Corps emphasized Captain Fatima Wasim’s remarkable achievement, underscoring her resilient spirit and unwavering motivation following her intensive training at the Siachen Battle School. Placed at an altitude of 15,200 feet, Captain Wasim’s deployment showcases her dedication to service in a demanding environment.

In a video shared alongside the announcement, the Fire and Fury Corps celebrated Captain Fatima Wasim’s groundbreaking accomplishment, providing further insight into her historic role.

This achievement follows closely on the heels of another milestone, as Captain Geetika Koul of the Snow Leopard Brigade recently became the first female medical officer from the Indian Army to be stationed at Siachen.
Captain Koul, after successfully completing her induction training at the Siachen Battle School, now contributes to the medical support on the world’s highest battlefield.Siachen Glacier, renowned as the highest-altitude battle site globally, is located near the Indo-Pak Line of Control.
Not only is it the largest glacier in India and the second-largest in the world, but it also stands as the highest battleground on Earth.
These dedicated and accomplished women are breaking barriers and contributing to the Indian Army’s commitment to service in the most challenging terrains.
