Blockbuster Film Animal Set for Global OTT Premiere on Netflix, January 26
The much-anticipated film “Animal” is gearing up for its digital release on the OTT platform. The makers recently revealed that the movie is set to premiere on Netflix India on Republic Day, January 26. The star-studded cast includes Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Triptii Dimri, with Sandeep Reddy Vanga at the helm as the director.
Notably, “Animal” will not only be available in Hindi but also in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada on the OTT platform. Expressing his excitement about the digital release, Ranbir Kapoor stated, “We are absolutely overjoyed by the response Animal received in theaters, and now I am glad that audiences worldwide will get a chance to watch it in the comfort of their homes. The opportunity to showcase our work globally is truly special.”
Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, “Animal” is an action drama that delves into the complexities of modern-day relationships, particularly focusing on the toxic dynamic between a father and son, portrayed by Anil and Ranbir respectively. Rashmika plays Ranbir’s girlfriend, whom he eventually marries, while Triptii appears as his extramarital affair. Bobby Deol takes on the role of a silent yet ruthless gangster in the film.
The journey to the OTT release wasn’t without its hurdles, as there was a legal dispute between the co-producers of “Animal,” CINE 1 Studios Private Limited and T-Series. The conflict was resolved in the Delhi High Court after Cine1 Studios filed a plea to halt the film’s OTT release until T-Series adhered to the terms of their agreement, which outlined a 35 percent ownership split and assigned rights.
“Animal” initially hit theaters on December 1, receiving mixed reviews for its portrayal of violence and misogyny. Despite the criticism, the film emerged as one of the highest-grossing movies of 2023, achieving blockbuster status at the Indian and overseas box offices. The success prompted the confirmation of a sequel, “Animal Park.”
