In a groundbreaking move, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) J&K has launched the online issuance of OPD tickets, enabling citizens to conveniently reserve their tickets from the comfort of their homes. This innovative step follows the successful implementation of the Scan & Share Queue Management System in hospitals, ushering in a new era of digital healthcare services in the region.
QR Codes Streamline Hospital Visits
All QR codes for healthcare facilities are now readily available online. To secure a token valid for 12 hours, individuals must scan the QR code of the respective healthcare facility. Subsequently, citizens can physically visit the hospital during the allotted time frame. Notably, individuals cannot request tokens more than once within 30 minutes of initial issuance. These QR codes are easily accessible on the official website, abdmjk.in.

Expanding the Digital Healthcare Landscape
ABDM officials have revealed that this system will continue to evolve, incorporating features such as digital doctor consultations. This expansion aims to enhance the convenience of healthcare services for the people of J&K, eliminating the need to endure long queues at hospitals.
Seamless Payments and Health Records Integration
Furthermore, the National Health Authority (NHA), under the Government of India (GoI), is actively working on integrating UPI Payment Gateways into the ABDM Ecosystem. This integration will empower citizens to make online payments for hospital fees and charges, eliminating the arduous wait times associated with traditional payment methods.
In a broader vision, the ABDM ecosystem seeks to centralize all citizens’ health records into a vertical health repository, supervised by a consent manager.
This approach ensures the secure storage and sharing of health records through a consent-based mechanism, safeguarding sensitive health data while making it accessible through various platforms. The government and private healthcare institutions nationwide will benefit from this federated structure.
A Paperless, Transparent, and Accountable Healthcare System
The digital mission undertaken by ABDM aspires to create a paperless, seamless, transparent, and accountable healthcare system. Bhupinder Kumar, Secretary of the H&ME Department, emphasizes that the overarching goal is to simplify healthcare delivery, making it easy and hassle-free for patients and their attendants across the Union Territory of J&K.
Dr. Shafqat Khan, the Additional Mission Director of ABDM J&K, highlights the widespread impact of this digital transformation. Currently implemented in 117 healthcare institutions, the mission is set to expand to cover 576 facilities, reaching a broader segment of the population. The process of collecting electronic medical records will commence, starting from Primary Healthcare Centers and Health and Wellness Centers up to Tertiary Care Hospitals. Notably, registration on the Health Provider Registry (HPR) is progressing rapidly, encompassing both public healthcare professionals and private healthcare facilities.
