AAP Accuses BJP of Operation Lotus 2.0 to Topple Delhi Government
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is executing “Operation Lotus 2.0” to destabilize the elected Delhi government. AAP leader Atishi Singh claimed that BJP has approached several AAP MLAs, offering bribes and making threats to induce defection. The AAP alleges that 7 MLAs have been contacted and offered Rs 25 crores each to switch sides. Atishi Singh emphasized that the AAP is not afraid, and they possess a recording of one such conversation related to “Operation Lotus 2.0,” hinting at its potential release if needed.
BJP Denies AAP’s Claims
The BJP has rejected the AAP’s accusations, with leader Kapil Mishra stating that Arvind Kejriwal is lying and avoiding questions. Mishra challenged Kejriwal to provide details about the alleged contacts, emphasizing that the AAP leader has a history of making baseless claims. The BJP denies involvement in any operation to destabilize the Delhi government.
Background and “Operation Lotus”
“Operation Lotus” is a term used to describe political maneuvers to engineer defections from rival parties to ensure a majority in legislative bodies. The term gained prominence in Indian politics when it was used to describe such strategies by the BJP in various states. In this context, “Operation Lotus 2.0” refers to an alleged attempt to destabilize the AAP-led government in Delhi.
AAP’s Strong Position in Delhi Assembly
AAP secured a significant victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, winning 62 out of 70 seats. The BJP, with just 8 seats, and other parties, including the Congress, had a minimal presence. The AAP’s dominant position makes the Delhi government challenging to topple through defections.
Political Dynamics and Response
Accusations of attempts to poach MLAs and destabilize governments are not uncommon in Indian politics. Both the AAP and BJP’s responses reflect the ongoing political tensions and rivalry. The veracity of the claims may be subject to further investigation or political developments.
