PESHAWAR, Apr 27 (VoM News) — Sheikh Yousuf Afridi, a commander of the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials and reports said.

Initial information suggests that assailants opened fire at close range, hitting Afridi multiple times and leaving him no chance to escape. Investigators are treating the killing as a targeted assassination.

Afridi was considered a key operative in the group’s activities in the region and was reportedly a close associate of Hafiz Saeed.

The incident adds to a series of recent attacks on high-profile militants in Pakistan. Last month, Amir Hamza survived a gun attack outside a television station in Lahore.

In another case, Muhammad Tahir Anwar, the elder brother of Masood Azhar, died under reported mysterious circumstances. He was known to be involved in the operations of Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Earlier, Abu Qatal alias Qatal Sindhi, another senior militant linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, was also killed by unidentified gunmen. He had been accused of orchestrating attacks, including the 2024 Reasi incident in Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials and analysts note a pattern of such targeted killings since 2023, with several militants linked to outfits like Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba reportedly eliminated across cities including Lahore, Karachi and other regions.

Authorities have not identified those behind Afridi’s killing. Investigations are ongoing.
