Kashmiri People Donate Gold, Cash and Valuables for Iran Relief Efforts, A Strong Display of Humanitarian Support

Srinagar, March 23, 2026: Residents across several parts of Kashmir have come together in a strong show of humanitarian support, donating cash, gold, silver, and household valuables for civilians affected by the ongoing crisis in Iran.

Community-led donation drives were reported from districts including Budgam and Baramulla, where locals contributed generously as a gesture of solidarity. Visuals showed people gathering in groups to deposit jewellery and money, with many initiatives taking place shortly after Eid al-Fitr.

Youth volunteers played a key role in organising door-to-door collection drives, particularly in Shia-majority areas. Participation cut across age groups, with women donating jewellery and household items, while children contributed their savings and Eid gifts.

In one notable instance, a woman donated gold preserved for nearly three decades in memory of her late husband—an act widely described as deeply moving. In Budgam, donation stalls were set up outside mosques, where contributions ranged from cash and ornaments to copper utensils and even livestock.

Similar initiatives were reported across other parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, coordinated by mosque committees, volunteers, and local community groups. Organisers said the response saw a significant surge around Eid, reflecting widespread public participation.

Women were at the forefront of the effort, while children also joined in by donating their Eidi, the money traditionally received during the festival. Many participants described the act of giving as a source of emotional relief and a way to stand in solidarity with those affected.

The initiative also received support from public representatives. Budgam MLA Muntazir Mehdi announced he would donate one month’s salary towards relief efforts, stating that humanitarian concerns must take precedence.

The Embassy of Iran in India has acknowledged the contributions, expressing gratitude and noting that the gesture would be remembered. Organisers said the collected donations would be routed through authorised channels to ensure they reach those impacted by the crisis.
