Multiple Drone Intrusion Attempts Reported Along LoC in Keran Sector of Jammu Kashmir

Multiple attempts by hostile drones to intrude across the Line of Control (LoC) were reported in Jammu and Kashmir’s Keran sector, official sources said on Friday, signalling renewed efforts to probe Indian defences amid harsh winter conditions.

According to sources, Army personnel detected several drones near the LoC and responded by firing warning shots, forcing the unmanned aerial vehicles to retreat back across the border. While the Army has not issued a formal statement so far, officials confirmed that alongside multiple drones, slow-moving luminous objects — described as “stars” — were also observed in the area.

“It appears to be an attempt to provoke or to use drones to test our defensive preparedness,” a senior Army officer said, adding that the situation was closely monitored and remained under control.

The incidents come at a time when heavy snowfall has shut down traditional infiltration routes along the LoC, effectively curbing the movement of Pakistan-backed terrorists into Indian territory. Security agencies believe the drone activity may be a tactic to sustain pressure and keep tensions alive along the border despite weather-imposed constraints.

Extreme winter conditions have also forced the Army to recalibrate its anti-infiltration grid. Troops deployed along forward posts are battling sub-zero temperatures, deep snow and the constant threat of avalanches, even as they remain alert to hostile actions from across the LoC.

This is the second major drone-related incident reported in the last two weeks. Similar sightings were earlier reported in the Poonch and Jammu sectors. Though some field reports suggest that as many as 15 drones may have been spotted in the Keran area, there has been no official confirmation of the exact number.

Following Operation Sindoor, India has significantly strengthened its counter-drone architecture along both the Line of Control and the international border, deploying advanced detection and neutralisation systems to counter emerging aerial threats.

Security forces remain on high alert as surveillance continues across vulnerable sectors to prevent any escalation or breach along the frontier.
