
Tragedy in Doda: 20-Year-Old Girl Ends Life by Jumping Into River After Cousin’s Death in Kedarnath
Doda, June 19, 2025: In a heartbreaking incident, a 20-year-old girl from the Gandoh area of Doda district ended her life by jumping into a river near Thathri, after learning about the tragic death of her cousin brother in Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath.
According to sources, the girl, identified as Payal, daughter of Harbans Lal, a resident of Jakyas, was deeply shocked after hearing that her cousin, Nitin Kumar (20), son of Ruwail Singh, a resident of Jang Nala, lost his life after being struck by a landslide in Kedarnath.
Eyewitnesses and CCTV footage reveal that Payal left home without informing her family, traveled several kilometers, and then jumped into the river near Thathri. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.

While the body of Nitin Kumar has not yet reached his hometown, this second tragedy has intensified the grief. A clip of the incident showing Payal jumping into the river has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and sorrow.
Soon after the news broke, police and locals launched a search operation in the river, but as of now, no trace of her has been found. Authorities have registered a case and are continuing investigations.
This dual tragedy has left the region devastated, with both families and communities mourning an unimaginable loss.
