KU Researchers Secure Patent for Innovative Impedance Meter
The University of Kashmir (KU) has secured a patent for Portable Microcontroller-Based Impedance Meter for Biological Tissue Analysis. The innovation, led by Dr Farooq Ahmad Khanday and his research team from the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Technology (DEIT), KU, was developed in collaboration with the University of Patras, Greece.
The portable impedance meter, designed to offer a cost-effective and accessible alternative to bulky and expensive traditional impedance analysers, enables real-time biological tissue analysis with 97 per cent accuracy. It features automatic signal adjustment, real-time data collection, and a built-in display, making it useful in medical diagnostics, agriculture, food safety, and wearable technology.
Dr Khanday’s research team includes Shaika Hassan, Insha Showkat, Jehangir Hameed Lone, Mudasir Ahmad Khanday, Shazia Rashid, Hilal Ahmad Bhat, Javeed Iqbal Reshi, and Qazi Iqra Nazir, alongside Prof Costas Psychalinos from the University of Patras, Greece.
KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan congratulated the team, stating that securing the patent highlights the university’s commitment to innovation-driven research. Dean Research Prof Mohammad Sultan Bhat also commended the achievement, reaffirming the institution’s emphasis on scientific advancements with real-world applications.
Meanwhile, Prof M Tariq Banday, Head of DEIT, KU, praised the breakthrough, calling it a testament to the department’s dedication to interdisciplinary research and technological progress.
