SMVD University Launches Week-Long Campus Plantation Drive

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) University has embarked on a significant environmental initiative with the launch of a week-long campus plantation drive.
Spearheaded by the NSS team, the drive aims to plant 2,500 saplings of diverse species across the university grounds, contributing to a greener and more sustainable environment.
This initiative is supported by a project led by Mr. Deeraj, Director of the NGO Grow-Trees.com, in collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Fund, Jammu & Kashmir, and Eco-Watch. These partnerships emphasize the community’s collective efforts to advance environmental conservation.
The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, NSS Programme Coordinator, who outlined the drive’s objectives and the importance of such initiatives in promoting ecological balance and community participation.
Dr. Kumar emphasized that this plantation drive is a vital step toward fostering environmental stewardship within the university and the broader community.
Distinguished guests, including Prof. R.K. Mishra, Dean of Student Welfare, Prof. Balbir Singh, Dean of Academic Affairs, Mr. Neeraj Gupta (JKAS), Finance Officer, Dr. Varun Dutta, NCC Coordinator, and Dr. Kamaldeep, Assistant Professor at SMVDU, attended the event. Their presence underscored the university’s strong commitment to this green initiative.
A noteworthy contribution comes from Ar. Aditya Kumar Singh, a faculty member at SMVDU, and his student team, who volunteered to advise on the design of the campus plantation policy.
As the week progresses, students, faculty, and staff will actively participate in planting and nurturing the saplings, demonstrating the university community’s dedication to environmental sustainability.
The event was effectively coordinated by NSS student coordinators, Ms. Sadhvi Sharma and Mr. Abhishek Sharma, ensuring smooth execution of the activities.
