    Guwahati, July 12 [VoM News]: In an unfortunate incident, five people have lost their lives after inhaling toxic fumes inside a well at a private construction site in Shillong, Meghalaya, as per the officials.

    The incident occurred on Friday in the East Khasi Hills district, the Officials said.

    As per media reports, four labourers were pumping water out of the well using a generator.

    The workers faced the suffocation after they were exposed to toxic fumes emitted by the generator.

    The two brothers attempted to rescue them by entering the well. One of them managed to climb out safely, while the other also succumbed to the fumes, taking the death toll to five.

    Bodies have been recovered and, now, the matter is subjected to investigation which will determine the circumstances that led to the tragedy.

    However, after the recovery of bodies, postmortem examination would be done which will likely reveal the exact cause of death.
