SRINAGAR, July 25: The Jal Shakti Department (PHE) has suspended two employees in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district due to misconduct. One of the employees, Mohd Yagoob Khan Mangral, a helper at the PHE Sub Division Baramulla posted at the Delina Water Supply Scheme, allegedly made a hole in the main supply line to divert water to his relatives’ vegetable garden.
This action severely impacted water distribution to other residents. Consequently, Mangral has been suspended pending an inquiry, and a fine of Rs. 50,000 will be imposed on him, subject to verification by a committee.
The second employee, Mohd Shaf Gojer, an assistant lineman at the PHE Sub Division Watergam, currently posted at the Rohama Water Supply Scheme, has also been suspended pending an inquiry for failing to perform his duties punctually. Executive Engineer Aijaz Ahmad of Baramulla issued the suspension orders.
Additionally, Assistant Executive Engineer Imtiyaz Ahmad of PHE Sub Division Baramulla and Engineer Mudasir Nayeem Rather of PHE Sub Division Pattan have been issued show-cause notices.
They were criticized for not adequately addressing the ongoing water crisis in their areas, which has led to severe water scarcity and public protests. The protests have caused the national highway to be blocked on two occasions, resulting in significant inconvenience.
Higher authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla, have expressed their displeasure with the officials’ lackadaisical approach.
The notices demand that both officials explain their positions within two days, or face action under the J&K Government Employee (Conduct Rules) of 1971.
