US-Iran Talks LIVE Updates: First Day Covers Lebanon, Hormuz, frozen assets
GENEVA, June 22 [VoM News]: The United States and Iran concluded the first day of high-level talks in Switzerland on Sunday, with discussions focusing on regional security, sanctions relief, and the release of frozen Iranian assets amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The negotiations are being mediated by Pakistan and Qatar and mark a significant diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
During the talks, delegates discussed issues related to Lebanon, the Strait of Hormuz, and potential measures aimed at easing tensions. According to Iranian negotiators, the agenda also included the release of frozen Iranian assets and temporary relief from sanctions on oil exports.
US President Donald Trump warned that Washington could respond strongly to Iran’s continued support for Hezbollah, stating that Iran could be hit “very hard again” if tensions escalate further.
Responding to the remarks, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf dismissed the threats and urged the United States to exercise caution in its rhetoric.
Meanwhile, developments along the Israel-Lebanon border continued to add pressure to the regional situation. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said Israeli troops would remain deployed in southern Lebanon for as long as necessary.
In response, Naim Qassem stated that Hezbollah would confront any Israeli violations of the ceasefire and insisted that Israeli forces would not be allowed to remain in Lebanese territory indefinitely.
The Switzerland talks are expected to continue, with observers closely watching whether progress can be made on sanctions, security concerns, and broader regional stability.
