Global software giant Microsoft announced on Friday that an outage in its online services has impacted customers worldwide, including in India. Windows users reported encountering ‘Blue Screen of Death’ errors, with many taking to social media platform X to express their issues. The outage has caused significant disruptions across various sectors.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike also reported a major outage on Friday, which affected businesses globally. The company attributed the issue to a problem with a recent update and is currently rolling back that update globally to resolve the situation.

Windows users have experienced blue screen errors, resulting in laptops and personal computers getting stuck in a restart loop. Major US carriers, including Delta, United, and American Airlines, have grounded all flights due to the outage, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Berlin Airport announced the suspension of all flights, and Bloomberg reported technical glitches at the London Stock Exchange.

In India, SpiceJet and IndiGo announced via X that they were experiencing technical challenges due to the Microsoft outage, affecting online services such as booking, check-in, and managing bookings. Downdetector, a platform that detects outages, indicated that users in various parts of India were reporting problems.

The National Cyber Security Coordinator of Australia acknowledged the large-scale technical outage affecting numerous companies and services across Australia, attributing the issue to a third-party software platform used by the affected companies.

Microsoft stated on its support website that it was investigating an issue preventing users from accessing its apps and services. Impacted services may include Microsoft Teams, Viva Engage, Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft 365 admin center, among others. The company is working to identify the full impact and will provide more information shortly.

Low-cost US carriers Frontier Airlines, Allegiant, and SunCountry also reported operational impacts. Allegiant’s website was unavailable due to the Microsoft Azure issue, while SunCountry mentioned that its booking, check-in, and trip-managing capabilities were temporarily unavailable.

Microsoft’s Azure cloud software status report indicated that the service went down for some customers in the Central US region around 6 pm ET, affecting service management operations and connectivity or availability of services. Microsoft continues to take mitigation actions to resolve the issues, providing updates on the admin center and via X.
