    DUBAI : Thirteen Indian nationals are among the 16-member crew of the Comoros-flagged oil tanker, ‘Prestige Falcon’, which went missing after capsizing off the coast of Oman.

    The country’s maritime authority has reported the incident, which has sparked a major search and rescue operation.

    Capsizing Incident Details

    The tanker capsized 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah in the Wilayat of Duqm. Oman’s Maritime Security Centre announced the incident via a post on X on Monday, highlighting the collaborative efforts with relevant authorities to locate the missing crew.

    According to the statement released on Tuesday, the crew included 13 Indians and 3 Sri Lankans. Unfortunately, the crew remains unaccounted for as the search continues.

    Rescue Operations Underway

    The rescue operation was quickly activated, and efforts are ongoing to locate the missing crew members.

    The Oman Maritime Security Centre has assured continuous search operations in coordination with various concerned authorities.

    The disappearance of the ‘Prestige Falcon’ has raised concerns given the substantial Indian and Sri Lankan crew members involved. Families of the crew are anxiously awaiting news, while authorities intensify their search efforts.

    Voyage and Destination

    The ‘Prestige Falcon’ was en route to the Yemeni port city of Aden when it encountered difficulties.

    According to the shipping website marinetraffic.com, the vessel had departed from the port of Hamriya in Dubai.

    Duqm Port, a major hub for Oman’s oil and gas mining projects, was a key location in the tanker’s route.

    The incident has underscored the risks faced by maritime vessels in the region, particularly those involved in transporting oil and gas.

    The ongoing search and rescue operation highlights the challenges faced in maritime safety and the importance of coordinated efforts in emergency responses.
