    In a bid to transform the face of government offices and schools in the Union Territory (UT), Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, emphasized the importance of a month-long cleanliness drive. This drive is set to not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of these institutions but also promote a litter-free UT.

    Swachhta Mission: Transforming Government Offices and Schools

    During a comprehensive review of the Swachhta Mission in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Mehta underscored the significance of this initiative, especially since the villages in the region have been declared ODF+ Model category. He urged all the Divisional and District administrations to play a pivotal role in eliminating junk and enhancing the overall ambiance of approximately 50,000 office premises, including government school buildings.

    The Chief Secretary urged for the installation of dust bins, beautification of structures, and maintenance of cleanliness both inside and outside these buildings. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of penalizing littering on the streets to make the UT truly ‘litter-free.

    ‘Amrit Kalashs for the National Monument: Preparations and Guidelines

    Dr. Mehta reviewed the preparations for sending block-level Amrit Kalashs to New Delhi as part of the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ initiative. He emphasized the need for District and Divisional level arrangements to receive these soil urns, which have been collected from every rural and urban household. The Chief Secretary also recommended providing a uniform attire to the youth volunteers transporting Amrit Kalashs, ensuring a sense of unity and purpose.

    Efficiency and Winter Preparedness: Key Priorities

    Dr. Mehta emphasized efficiency in government offices by urging timely file disposal. He set a target of reaching 99% file disposal by the month’s end and emphasized monitoring pending files daily to identify and address undue delays. He recognized the importance of quality power supply, adequate ration, and snow clearance during winters. The Chief Secretary called for the swift replacement of damaged transformers in urban and rural areas, alongside heightened enforcement to curb illegal power usage.

    Empowering the Public and Preparing for Navratri Festival

    The Chief Secretary highlighted the importance of an IEC campaign through local and social media to raise awareness about timely electricity bill payments. He underlined the burden of borrowing Rs 31,000 Cr for purchasing electricity and called upon the UT’s residents to cooperate with the administration’s efforts.

    In preparation for the upcoming Navratri festival, Dr. Mehta directed the administration to ensure uninterrupted water and power supply during the festivities. He emphasized cleanliness drives and other measures in areas where people gather for the celebration, ensuring a smooth and vibrant Navratri for all.
