President Murmu to Inaugurate Skywalk Project at Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine
Jammu and Kashmir Welcomes President Murmu
President Droupadi Murmu is currently on a two-day visit to the picturesque region of Jammu and Kashmir. Her itinerary includes a visit to the sacred Vaishno Devi shrine at Katra-Reasi, where she will partake in various inaugurations.
Inaugurating the Spectacular Skywalk
On the second day of her visit, accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, President Murmu is scheduled to visit the Vaishno Devi shrine, nestled in the Trikuta Hills of Reasi district. This visit encompasses a unique inauguration, a spectacular skywalk, aimed at enhancing both safety and convenience for pilgrims. The skywalk, with a cost of Rs 15 crore, has been conceived as a security measure to manage the flow of devotees traveling to and from the shrine. It is designed to provide distinct pathways for incoming and outgoing pilgrims, situated 20 feet above the track level. With a length of nearly 300 meters and a width of 2.5 meters, this skywalk ensures seamless pilgrimage.

Safety and Comfort at the Core of the Skywalk
The skywalk’s conception prioritizes safety and convenience. It will offer seating arrangements for senior citizens and women and include two waiting halls with washroom facilities to cater to the needs of approximately 150 devotees. This elevated structure, perched 20 feet above the ground, will significantly reduce congestion and streamline the pilgrim flow between Manokamna Bhawan and gate number three.
Enhanced Devotee Safety Post New Year’s Stampede
The decision to construct the skywalk was accelerated after a tragic stampede on New Year’s Day earlier this year, resulting in 12 fatalities and 16 injuries. To ensure the safety of devotees, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who chairs the SMVDSB, announced several measures, including the provision of 100% online registration. In addition to offering a dedicated route for pilgrims, the skywalk comprises nine paths, each adorned with depictions of the nine forms of Goddess Vaishno Devi. The CEO of the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Anshul Garg, emphasized that the skywalk aims not only to control crowds but also to ensure a comfortable and safe pilgrimage experience for the devotees.
Convenient Lockers for Pilgrims
Complementing the skywalk, the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has installed 1500 lockers for the convenience of pilgrims. These lockers enable pilgrims to securely store their belongings without having to endure long queues. The process is simple: visit the Parvati Bhawan within the temple complex, hand over your luggage to Shrine Board employees, and receive a wristband in exchange. After completing your visit, return the wristband to retrieve your belongings from the dedicated lockers.
