    Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Wanweiroy Kharlukhi, his wife, and daughter, along with 24 other Meghalaya natives, find themselves in a harrowing situation as they remain stranded in Bethlehem, Israel. The ongoing chaos in Israel, sparked by a surprise land-sea-air attack by Palestinian group Hamas, has left them unable to return home. Dr. Kharlukhi, a prominent member of the National Peoples Party (NPP) in Meghalaya, traveled to Jerusalem for a pilgrimage, only to be caught up in the rapidly escalating violence.

    Meghalaya CM Awaits Safe Passage for Stranded Pilgrims

    Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP chief, Conrad Sangma, has taken proactive steps to ensure the safe return of the stranded pilgrims. He is in close communication with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to facilitate their evacuation. Sources suggest that the Indian Mission to Egypt may play a pivotal role in the rescue operation, with potential evacuations planned for Sunday.

    Indian Embassy Alerts Citizens Amid Escalating Conflict

    The Indian embassies in Israel and Palestine have issued warnings to Indian citizens residing in the region to remain vigilant and make contact if needed. The conflict between Hamas and Israel has already claimed the lives of more than 500 people. Over 18,000 Indian citizens, including caregivers, IT professionals, and students, reside in Israel, along with approximately 85,000 Jews of Indian origin. Recent years have seen an increase in immigration from Indian states like Mizoram and Manipur.
