United States’ Pledge to Enhance Defense Ties with India

The Pentagon has reiterated its commitment to building a stronger defense partnership with India. Pentagon Press Secretary Pat Ryder, during a press conference, expressed appreciation for the defense relationship between the two countries and emphasized the continued effort to foster a more robust defense partnership with India in the future.

Evolving Defense Trade Relationship

Ryder highlighted the significant growth in defense trade between India and the United States over the years. In 1997, defense trade between the two nations was nearly negligible, but it has since grown substantially, with the current trade volume surpassing USD 20 billion.

China Identified as a Pacing Challenge

Responding to questions, Ryder underscored that China remains a prominent challenge for the Department of Defense. The United States values its partnership with India and other countries in the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing the importance of preserving individual nations’ sovereignty and upholding the international rules-based order that has contributed to peace and stability for many years.
