Sebright’s remarks, conveyed to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), shed light on the intricate dynamics of UAE-US trade relations. Notably, US exports to the UAE surged to $24.8 billion in the previous year, marking a substantial increase from 2022 figures. The UAE retained its position as the primary export destination for the US in the Middle East and Africa for the fifth consecutive year, underscoring its significance as a strategic trade partner.
Sebright emphasized the pivotal role of US exports in driving employment, citing their contribution to 125,000 jobs in the US. Meanwhile, UAE exports to the US amounted to USD 6.6 billion in the same period. Sebright also highlighted the burgeoning investments from the UAE in diverse sectors within the US market, including real estate, manufacturing, healthcare, and technology.
Sebright outlined three key areas poised for enhanced collaboration between the UAE and the United States in 2024. These areas include healthcare and life sciences, financial services and private equity, and technology and artificial intelligence. Such partnerships are expected to foster innovation and drive mutual economic growth.
Building upon the momentum of the previous year, Sebright emphasized the ongoing efforts to bolster cooperation in critical areas such as renewable energy, food security, and sustainability. These initiatives align with the global agenda and demonstrate the commitment of both nations to address pressing environmental challenges. Additionally, traditional sectors like space, defense, and energy continue to serve as pillars of the bilateral trade relationship, reinforcing the multifaceted nature of UAE-US ties.
