Putin Casts Electronic Vote in Presidential Election: TASS
Putin Casts Electronic Vote:High Turnout in Online Voting
Russian President Vladimir Putin, contesting as an independent candidate, recently cast his vote electronically in the presidential elections, according to Russia-based TASS. Footage released by the Kremlin depicted Putin engaging in the voting process from his office, a routine he’s previously followed during past elections.
The ongoing presidential elections in Russia have introduced online voting for the first time, as reported by TASS. On the initial day of polling, over 3.5 million individuals opted to cast their votes electronically across Russia, indicating a significant turnout, with a 73 percent voter participation rate recorded by the federal electronic voting platform.
Putin Casts Electronic Vote:International Observation and Extended Voting Period
Over 180 election experts from various countries are overseeing the electoral process in Russia, invited by the Russian Civic Chamber. The presence of international observers underscores the global interest in the election’s transparency and fairness.
Initially scheduled for March 17, 2024, the Russian presidential election has been extended to three days, from March 15 to 17, by the Russian Central Election Commission. This expanded voting period aims to provide citizens with more flexibility in participating in the electoral process, a move appreciated by the electorate, according to Russian Central Election Commission Chair Ella Pamfilova.
Putin Casts Electronic Vote:Candidates and Putin’s Potential Fifth Term
Competing against Putin for the presidency are Vladislav Davankov, Leonid Slutsky, and Nikolay Kharitonov. While Davankov was nominated by the New People Party, Putin entered the race as a self-designated candidate. Slutsky represents the LDPR party, while Kharitonov represents the Communist Party of Russia.
If successful, this election will mark Putin’s fifth term as Russian President. Since his initial election in 2000, he has secured re-election in 2004, 2012, and 2018. Constitutional amendments extending presidential terms mean that if victorious, Putin could potentially serve until 2030, solidifying his political legacy in Russian history.
