Shehbaz Sharif Expresses Gratitude to Modi:Kashmir Issue Resurfaces in Sharif’s Speech
While expressing a commitment to equal relations, Sharif revisited the sensitive Kashmir issue, drawing parallels with Palestine. This move hinted at the enduring complexities in the relationship between India and Pakistan.
Tensions between the two countries escalated after a terror attack on the Pathankot Air Force base in 2016, and relations further soured following India’s airstrikes on a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist training camp in Pakistan in 2019. The situation worsened after India revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special powers in August 2019, leading to strained diplomatic ties.
India consistently asserts that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and desires normal neighborly relations with Pakistan, free from terror, hostility, and violence. The evolving dynamics between India and Pakistan will undoubtedly impact regional stability.
