15 Killed in Philippines Landslides as Typhoon Bavi Nears Taiwan, China

VoM News Desk, July 11, 2026: As Typhoon Bavi made its emergence after rain-triggered landslides struck the southern Philippine island of Mindanao, resulting in 15 casualities, whereas six remain missing, as per AFP report.

Now, the Typhoon Bavi is moving towards the eastern China, authorities said Friday . The powerful storm prompted large-scale evacuations across Taiwan, where more than 2,000 residents were moved from vulnerable areas.

The officials have warned that Typhoon Bavi is the biggest typhoon to threaten the island in over three decades, could bring destructive winds, heavy rainfall, flooding and landslides.

Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration said the typhoon was carrying sustained winds of up to 155 kmph with stronger gusts. Where, as, schools and businesses were closed in several northern and eastern regions, while hundreds of flights were cancelled. Emergency teams, including more than 28,000 troops, were placed on standby.

Authorities also ordered people to stay away from coastal areas as waves of up to nine metres were forecast. Residents in cities such as Keelung stocked up on essential supplies and secured homes and businesses ahead of the storm.

In Japan’s southwestern islands, officials suspended classes and warned of rough seas, strong winds and landslide risks as the typhoon approached.

Bavi is expected to pass near Taiwan before making landfall in eastern China over the weekend. China is already recovering from recent storms that have caused fatalities, flooding and widespread damage in several provinces.
