Indian Navy Elevates Maritime Power with MH 60R Seahawk Squadron

In a momentous occasion, the Indian Navy officially commissioned the first squadron of its newly-inducted MH 60R Seahawk multi-role helicopters in Kochi on March 6, 2024. The ceremony, held at INS Garuda, Southern Naval Command, was graced by the presence of Admiral R Hari Kumar, the Chief of Naval Staff.

Formal Induction of INAS 334 ‘Seahawks’

The commissioned squadron, named INAS 334 ‘Seahawks,’ signifies a significant step in the formal induction of these versatile and capable helicopters into the first MH 60R Naval Air Squadron. The squadron is under the command of Captain M Abhisheik Ram, and the Chief of Naval Staff was presented with a 50-man Guard of Honor upon arrival at the venue.

A Landmark Ceremony and Maritime Capabilities Boost

The commissioning ceremony featured the recitation of the invocation, the reading of the squadron’s commissioning warrant, and the unveiling of the commissioning plaque by the Chief of Naval Staff. The event was marked by a scintillating fly-past of Seahawks and a traditional water cannon salute, symbolizing the historic significance of the day.

Admiral R Hari Kumar praised the MH-60R helicopter as one of the world’s most potent multi-role helicopters, emphasizing its potential to significantly enhance India’s maritime capabilities and secure national interests. He commended the officers and men of ‘Seahawks’ for the swift progress in fully integrating with the Fleet and urged them to continue striving for excellence, emphasizing the importance of being mission-ready to safeguard the nation’s waters. This marks a crucial advancement for the Indian Navy in bolstering its maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
