The ECP revealed that it had extended the deadline for submitting a priority list for reserved seats for women. However, the SIC, supported by the PTI, failed to submit the required list before the February 8 polls, leading to the ruling. The electoral body stated that the SIC cannot claim a share in the reserved seats for women due to “non-curable procedural and legal defects.”

Notably, ECP Punjab member Hassan Bharwana dissented from the majority verdict. He agreed that the reserved seats could not be allocated to SIC due to the late submission of the priority list. However, he expressed dissent regarding the proportional representation of seats to other political parties. PTI has criticized the ruling, with party leader Shoaib Shaheen announcing the intention to challenge the ECP’s verdict in a higher court. He claimed that neither the ECP’s intention nor its decision is transparent.

Despite the dissent, PTI is determined to contest the ECP’s decision. Shoaib Shaheen asserted that the party would challenge the verdict in court, expressing skepticism about the ECP’s intentions. PTI Senator Ali Zafar also criticized the decision, highlighting the composition of the National Assembly and hinting at the possibility of escalating the matter to the Supreme Court if relief is not obtained from the high court. Geo News reported on the party’s stance, emphasizing the ongoing discord surrounding the ECP’s ruling.
