Chief Election Commissioner Outlines Initiatives for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, addressing the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, highlighted positive strides, stating, “The figure of first-time women voters is at 7,26,000, which is quite good.” He emphasized the commitment to enhancing the voting experience, ensuring facilities at every booth, and introducing gender-inclusive measures such as booths operated entirely by women.
Ensuring Accessibility and Inclusivity at Polling Stations
Kumar outlined plans to provide comprehensive facilities at every polling booth, aiming for a positive voter experience. He specifically mentioned the operation of certain booths entirely by women, contributing to gender inclusivity in the electoral process. Additionally, the Commissioner emphasized the focus on making voting accessible for citizens above 85 years by allowing them to exercise their voting rights from the comfort of their homes.
Encouraging Participation: “Role to Poll” Initiative
Expressing the Election Commission’s eagerness to boost voter engagement, Kumar introduced the concept of “role to poll.” The initiative encourages individuals to actively participate in electoral roles and subsequently exercise their voting rights. This approach aligns with the broader goal of fostering a sense of responsibility and involvement among the electorate.
As the nation gears up for the Lok Sabha elections, these initiatives underscore the Election Commission’s dedication to inclusivity, accessibility, and an overall positive voting experience for citizens.
