Over 100 Prominent Indians, Pakistanis appeal to PMs to Resume Dialoguing
NEW DELHI, June 29, [VoM News]: More than 100 noted personalities from India and Pakistan have appealed for peace efforts and asked the governments of the two countries to restore dialoguing and conventional diplomatic ties, which have hit an all time low due to continued tensions between the two neighbours.
As many as 117 individuals put their signatures on an open letter published by the Centre for Peace and Progress urging Prime Ministers of the both countries to take serious, step-by-step and far-reaching actions that would allow rebuilding of confidence, normal working relationship, and permanent peace.
According to the letter, due to long-term hostility the youth of the region has been subjected to a restricted life in terms of their developmental opportunities and scope for a settled life in future.
They called for resumption of full diplomatic relations between the two governments and restoration of High Commissioners in New Delhi and Islamabad as well as regular visa process for normal citizens.
It suggested the resumption of structured dialoguing, enhancing people-to-people interactions and exchanges between cultural and religious groups.
Some of the leading Indian signatories include Farooq Abdullah, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mehbooba Mufti, Manoj Jha, and Humayun Kabir. In all 61 people were from India among the 117 signatories of the open letter.
