PTI Leader Junaid Akbar Vows Action Against Ruling Alliance in Heated Parliamentary Session
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Junaid Akbar issued a stern warning, asserting that the National Assembly would face disruption until their “due rights” are acknowledged, as reported by Geo News. Akbar, also a Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) lawmaker, expressed his strong sentiments during a spirited speech at the second session of the newly elected lower house of parliament.
Dispute over Mandate and Rigged Elections
Akbar boldly declared non-recognition of the current assembly, emphasizing a refusal to legislate or permit its functioning. The PTI claims its mandate was “stolen” in the February 8 general elections, terming the polls as “rigged.” The party alleges a lack of a ‘level playing field’ and accuses the caretaker government of influencing the elections.
Allegations of Horse-Trading and Discrimination
Accusing the Pakistan Peoples Party, Akbar alleged a marketplace for horse-trading at Sindh House, where lawmakers’ consciences were supposedly bought. He pointed out instances of discrimination against PTI, such as the removal of the party’s electoral symbol ‘bat’ after the May 9 incidents. The PTI leader claimed two assassination attempts were made against Imran Khan, and sedition cases were filed against party members.
May 9 Riots and Accountability Call
Referring to the May 9 riots triggered by the arrest of the deposed prime minister, Akbar mentioned PTI workers being imprisoned for violence. He demanded accountability for the alleged rigging in the general elections and urged the government and Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa to launch a fresh inquiry into the beneficiaries of the May 9 violence.
Junaid Akbar vowed to hold the ruling alliance responsible for constitutional violations, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into the incidents surrounding the May 9 protests.
