Governor La Ganesan expressed his sentiments, emphasizing, “Our priority should be to maintain cleanliness.” He acknowledged the progress made in Nagaland, with most villages now being declared open defecation-free, a vital step toward ensuring cleanliness.
“Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath”: Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign
The focal point of this year’s ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (SHS) campaign is the event titled “Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath,” inspiring citizens across the nation to volunteer one hour for cleanliness at 10 a.m. on October 1, 2023.

Cleanliness Drive Initiates at the Raj Bhavan
The cleanliness drive commenced at the Raj Bhavan and extended to the Heritage, Nagaland. Notably, it was initiated by the Kohima Municipal Council, despite reservations expressed by various organizations in Nagaland regarding the Prime Minister’s call for a nationwide cleanliness drive on October 1.
Prime Minister Modi’s Call to Action
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier called upon citizens to participate in the nationwide cleanliness drive on October 1, in anticipation of Gandhi Jayanti. The rallying cry, “Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta Ek Saath,” aims to unite citizens from every corner of the country for one hour of collective “shramdaan” starting at 10 a.m.
Mobilizing for a Cleaner India
During the 105th edition of his monthly radio program, Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi encouraged widespread participation, stating, “A big event on cleanliness is going to be organized on October 1. You too should take out time and help in this campaign related to cleanliness. You can also join this cleanliness campaign in your street, or neighborhood, or at a park, river, lake, or any other public place.”
