Indian Army Chief Highlights India’s Resolve Amidst Border Standoff
Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande has underscored India’s resolute stance during the eastern Ladakh border standoff with China, stating that it has drawn the world’s attention to India’s political and military determination. Speaking at an event, General Pande emphasized that China’s increasing projection of power beyond its region poses a threat to the rules-based international order.
General Pande also mentioned the recent Indo-Pacific Army Chiefs Conclave hosted by the Indian Army, which saw the participation of leaders and delegations from 30 countries bordering the Indo-Pacific region.
China’s Rise and India’s Response
The Army Chief pointed out China’s ascension as a significant player on the global stage, with political, economic, technological, and military influence, which it intends to lead. China has been engaging in geopolitical and trade agreements viewed as zero-sum games, and its assertive behavior outside its region threatens the international rules-based order.

Challenges on Multiple Fronts
While acknowledging the challenges, General Pande emphasized the importance of addressing internal security situations and unsettled borders, especially in the context of collaboration between India’s western and northern neighbors.
He also highlighted the evolving nature of conflict, with disruptive technologies blunting conventional force ratios and the increasing significance of space, sea, electromagnetic, and cognitive domains in information warfare. These developments are making the battlefield more complex and contested.
India’s National Interests and Security
General Pande stressed that the security of a nation cannot be outsourced and must not depend on external largesse. India must ensure its national interests remain secure as it pursues its national vision. To achieve this, the Indian Army is aligning itself with the national vision and objectives and is working on transforming into a modern, agile, adaptive, and technology-enabled force.
In conclusion, General Pande emphasized that India’s national security must remain uncompromised to ensure the nation’s continued progress.
