Legal Twist Unfolds: Santoshi’s Bail and Pending Judgement

In a recent turn of events, renowned filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi has been granted bail in the cheque-bouncing case. Confirming this development, Santoshi’s lawyer, Binesh Patel, revealed that the court has postponed the judgement for the next 30 days.

Two-Year Jail Term and Repayment Order Issued

During the Saturday hearing, the court handed a two-year jail sentence to Rajkumar Santoshi, along with an order to repay double the amount owed to a businessman. The filmmaker, however, managed to secure a 30-day stay on the order, providing an opportunity to appeal against the decision.

30-Day Reprieve: Santoshi’s Chance to Challenge Verdict

The Jamnagar court in Gujarat granted Rajkumar Santoshi a 30-day stay on the order, enabling him to challenge the verdict in a higher court. Santoshi’s advocate, Binesh Patel, emphasized their intent to appeal against the magisterial court’s judgement during this period.

Appeal Based on Lack of Evidence and Altered Cheques

According to Patel, the prosecution failed to produce documentary evidence proving Santoshi’s involvement in taking the money. The defense claims that a third party collected the money from the complainant, presenting altered cheques without Santoshi’s knowledge. Patel highlighted these discrepancies and asserted that they would appeal at a higher forum.

Rajkumar Santoshi, known for his iconic collaborations with Sunny Deol, faces allegations from Ashok Lal, a prominent industrialist, and shipping magnate from Jamnagar. Lal claimed to have received bounced cheques totaling Rs 1 crore from Santoshi, leading to the legal dispute.

The complainant’s advocate, Piyush Bhojani, confirmed the sentencing and provided details of the case. Lal alleges contributing Rs 1 crore to Santoshi’s film and receiving 10 bounced cheques in return. Despite attempts to contact the filmmaker, Lal filed a lawsuit under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

In the midst of legal challenges, Rajkumar Santoshi continues to make headlines for his upcoming project, ‘Lahore 1947,’ produced under Aamir Khan Productions. This collaboration marks the 17th venture under Aamir Khan Productions, bringing together Santoshi, Sunny Deol, and Aamir Khan for the first time. Santoshi and Deol have previously delivered box office hits like ‘Ghayal,’ ‘Damini,’ and ‘Ghatak.’
