Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh highlighted the government’s commitment to improving cancer care accessibility and affordability. Urging action on reducing out-of-pocket expenses for patients, the conclave aims to devise solutions to bridge the existing gaps in cancer care.
Media’s Role in Awareness and Early Detection
NEIGRIHMS Director Nalin Mehta emphasized the crucial role of the media in raising awareness about cancer. Providing accurate information is essential for informed decision-making about health. Discussions center around early diagnosis, quality treatment access, cancer epidemiology, technology-enabled screening, and palliative care.
Mobile Endoscopy Units for Early Detection
As part of the initiative, mobile endoscopy units will be distributed to every district hospital, enhancing early detection efforts. The conclave addresses tobacco-related cancer, highlighting alarming statistics on tobacco usage in Meghalaya and its correlation with cancer cases.
