AICWA Strongly Condemns Poonam Pandey False Death Stunt, Calls for FIR
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has strongly condemned model-actor Poonam Pandey, calling for the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against her. AICWA expressed its disapproval of Poonam’s alleged attempt to garner publicity by falsely claiming to have succumbed to cervical cancer. The association, in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), emphasized that such actions under the guise of a serious medical condition are deemed unacceptable.
The controversy arose when Poonam’s team, on Friday, circulated a statement on Instagram declaring her demise due to cervical cancer. AICWA criticized this move, stating that the fabricated PR stunt was highly inappropriate and could erode trust in death-related news within the Indian film industry. The association asserted that no one in the film industry should resort to such levels for promotional purposes.
AICWA’s statement further called for legal action against Poonam Pandey and her manager, citing confirmation from the manager regarding the dissemination of false news. The association argued that an FIR should be filed to prevent the exploitation of one’s own death news for personal gains and PR. The entire Indian film industry, along with the nation, paid tribute to Poonam, believing the false information.
In response to the backlash, Poonam Pandey released a video on Saturday, clarifying that she is alive and well. She expressed regret for the stunt but justified it as an effort to raise awareness about cervical cancer. Poonam urged for a collective effort to combat the disease and concluded with the hashtag #DeathToCervicalCancer.
Despite the clarification, AICWA’s stance remains firm, condemning Poonam Pandey for the alleged publicity stunt and insisting on the necessity of legal action to prevent such incidents in the future. The association emphasized the potential harm such actions could cause to the credibility of news within the film industry.
